The CF-18 Hornet combat aircraft was being flown for a practice session at Lethbridge airport for the 2010 Alberta International Airshow when it crashed and exploded into flames.
Captain Brian Bews was caught on film ejecting from the Canadian Forces combat aircraft just briefly before it crashed to the ground and exploded yesterday. He survived, but was taken to the hospital for injuries suffered. No details of his injuries have been released yet.
According to Sky News, the Department of National Defence and transportation department officials are investigating the cause of the jet's crash.
Captain Holly Brown said: "Obviously, he knew there was a problem and he successfully ejected from the aircraft, and he survived. He's alive and it's very good news."
The 2010 Alberta International AirShow can be seen today and tomorrow. More than two dozen aircrafts are scheduled to take flight in the show.
