Police assaulted during arrest, handgun seized

Toronto - Toronto Police approached a man Wednesday that was acting suspiciously on St Joseph's Street in the Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West area. Upon seeing the police the suspect took off running.
Police were able to quickly catch the man.
"The guy assaulted the police when he was caught," Constable Tony Vella, Toronto Police Services, said during a phone interview, "The suspect punched the officers with a closed fist. During the violent struggle with the officers the man tried to remove his handgun."
Police were able to restrain the man and remove a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and drugs.
Sean Wright, 25, of Toronto, has been charges with three counts of assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of firearm while prohibited, possession of ammunition while prohibited, unauthorized possession of a firearm, weapons dangerous, possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon.
