As dozens of people marched through midtown Toronto, at least five protesters took over the provincial and federal Liberal offices in the city, which led to their arrests.
On Wednesday, dozens of people protested the Ontario Liberal government’s austerity measures, which would see substantial cuts to social services, including welfare, health and education. These measures led to the protest and march where the demonstrators called out Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
As the protest came to the front of the provincial and federal Liberal offices in midtown Toronto two blocks south of Yonge Street and Bloor Street, protesters took over their offices and spoke to the crowd in the demonstration about the specifics of the cuts and what effect they will have.
Eventually, Toronto Police arrested them and put them in the back of a police van. The activists crowded the detainment scene and chanted, “Let them go! Let them go!” and “Shame!” The police officers did not provide any specifics as to who the detained were, what they were being charged for and where they were going to be held.
