A 5.8 earthquake shook Iran according to a report by Iran's state television. The relatively strong quake took place in the southern province of Fars and Hormuzdan.
No casualties have been reported.
Inquirer.net reports:
Irna news agency said the quake was also felt on the Gulf island of Kish but did not give further details.
The US Geological Survey said earlier the moderate 5.8 quake jolted Iran's southern coast late Tuesday.
The quake struck at 1938 GMT some 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of Jahrom and 975 kilometers (610 miles) southeast of the capital Tehran, at a depth of 10 kilometers, it said.
Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to major earthquakes.
In 2003, a devastating quake took place in the southern city of Bam with a magnitude of 6.3, killing at least 31,000 people.
