Toronto - A cyclist racing to beat a traffic light hit a curb Thursday night in Toronto at the intersection of Caledonia Park Road and Davenport Road.
At 8:18 p.m. Thursday evening a man, 40, was riding his bicycle at a high rate of speed trying to get through the t-intersection of Davenport Road. When the light changed he was forced to make a sharp left turn onto Davenport Road heading eastboard in the westboard curb lane. As a result of the sharp turn the cyclist hit the curb losing control of his bike. Falling to the roadway he sustained a life-threatening head injury.
The severity of the man's head injury indicates he was not wearing a helmet. While helmets are not mandatory for those over the age of 16, Traffic Services would like to remind parents to be vigilant in ensuring that children wear their helmets at all times when riding their bicycles.
