Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston reconciled, got engaged two weeks ago, announced that they plan to be married within six weeks, but kept Sarah in the dark.
Bristol Palin, 19, daughter of former Alaskan governor and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and Levi Johnston, father of the couple's baby, told
Us Weekly "that they are getting married."
Bristol told
Us Weekly, "We got engaged two weeks ago. It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents."
The couple reconnected three months ago while working on a custody plan for Tripp, their eighteen-month-old son.
Levi told
Us Weekly, "I really thought we were over. So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking — and then we took Tripp for a walk."
The couple shared with
Us Weekly that "Sarah Palin has been kept in the dark about their plans ... until now." Bristol's father, Todd Palin, was also kept in the dark about the surprise
engagement which occurred two weeks ago.
Bristol seemed especially concerned about her mother's reaction to the news saying, "It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board."

Sarah and Todd Palin did react to the news through a statement read on the "Today" show. According to
Us Weekly, the Palins said:
Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what's best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.
According to the
Washington Post, "Johnston recently acknowledged telling lies about the Palin family after he and Bristol broke up last year. He says he's apologized."
In December 2008, Bristol and Levi called off their engagement two weeks after Tripp was born.
The couple plan to be married in Alaska within the next six weeks.
