Toronto - The Toronto Police have arrested the owner of Indo−Overseas Management Group, also known as IOMG Inc. or IOMG Canada, a company that is accused of preying on college and university students seeking assistance with the immigration process.
The suspect allegedly has used the Internet and South Asian community newspapers to advertise his services. Demanding an up-front fee a police report says that the suspect promised to provide services to new immigrants. Once the suspect had the victims money he did little to no work for them and cut off all communication.
"He created the impression he is a legitimate immigration consultant, paralegal and/or lawyer," said Constable Tony Vella, Toronto Police Services.
The suspect is not licensed with the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants or the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Kishorbha Patel, 38, of Toronto, has been charged with fraud under and three counts of fraud over.
Police believe that there are other victims.
