It is reported that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will adopt a resolution to condemn the Tea Party movement for "explicitly racist behavior."
According the the Kansas City Star, the organization is planning to vote this Tuesday on the language at its annual convention, being held in Kansas City this year.
Fox News reports that the resolution will call on "all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties and stand against the movement's effort to "push our country back to the pre-civil rights era."
According to reports, Tea Party groups have denied these allegations. Gina Loudon of the St. Louis Tea Party said that the NAACP's charges were untrue, adding that it was a "shame" that the NAACP was going down that road.
Fox News quotes Loudon:
I can't believe that the Tea Party is even going to be put in a position of dignifying something like that. This is sad because this established organization is being used by the left.
Loudon adds that Tea Parties do all they can to give minority conservatives a platform. The Kansas City Star also reports that the NAACP resolution will accuse the groups of engaging in racist behavior by displaying signs "intended to degrade people of color generally and President Barack Obama specifically."
Activists are also being accused of abusing black members of Congress, which may be a reference to a March incident when Tea Party protesters allegedly threw racial epithets at black lawmakers on Capitol Hill during the healthcare vote, says
Fox News.
Tea Party activists later challenged that allegation, and subsequently no evidence was found to show any racist action, states
Fox News.
