Air France lands due to bomb threat

A flight from Rio to Paris made an unexpected landing in northeastern Brazil Saturday night after a bomb threat was received.

A bomb threat on an Air France fight forced the plane traveling from Rio to Paris to make an emergency landing Saturday night in northeastern Brazil. That plan is now scheduled to take off Sunday night and complete its flight to Paris after no explosives were found on board. The flight is being delayed because regulations require crew receive a certain amount of rest, this according to an unnamed Air France spokesman in Brazil who was not authorized to discuss the matter. According to Solange Argenta of Infraero the Brazilian government’s airport authority, the plane had was completely inspected but officials would be inspecting the baggage as well, which was to be concluded during the afternoon Sunday. Argenta said that if nothing suspicious is found then the flight will be cleared to take off as planned in the evening. Air France Flight 443 was carrying 405 passengers along with 18 crew members, all where evacuated safely. The bomb threat was a female voice that came in about 30 minutes after the plane took off, and was received by Rio’s international airport. Once the call was received the control tower contacted the jet and it was diverted to Recife, Brazil for emergency landing. Once the plane landed it taxied to a remote part of the airport where everyone was evacuated and the inspection began. The airport in Recife was closed for about 30 minutes, but then reopened.
