article imageDaring Dachshund becomes world's first scuba diving K-9

Vladivostok - A Russian diving enthusiast has developed a scuba-diving dry suit complete with helmet, breathing mask and oxygen source for his K-9 companion Boniface, the daring diving dachshund. The first experimental dive was declared a success.
Sergei Gorbunov, a professional diver in the Pacific Coast city of Vladivostok in the Russian Federation, gave demonstrations over the weekend of the gear he designed to turn Boniface his pet black and tan dachshund into a Scuba-dooby doo dog to accompany him underwater when diving in shallow regions of the sea.
While the new recruit did have a specially designed suit, he still could be heard whimpering when submerged underwater and held there for any length of time. Because Boni didn't seem as thrilled with the idea as his owner he managed to skip subsequent dives with Borbunov who was joined instead by his friends and family.

Boni had seemed eager to make his owner happy as preparation were made for the first dive. He played and barked and scooted right into his custom made clothing. But it didn't take him long to scamper away once he was safely deposited back on land and got his little sea-legs back.
Gobunov says, "Underwater, I don't think he experiences any stress."
The experiment with the new diving equipment that Boni wore was considered a successful victory for canines who have ambitions of learning to scuba dive. Sergei Gorbunov, Boni's owner said he intends on training the dog to dive to the same depths humans can safely dive. Although we are not sure why unless he plans to someday replace the Russian Navy Divers with their K-9 counterparts.
Boniface had no comment at this time on his human's grand plan. When asked about the dive he replied I laughed, I whimpered and then I cried. Although it was a traumatic event, it was better then staying home watching Cats again on DVD.
