article imagePsychic octopus predicts Germany's defeat to Spain in World Cup

By Laura Trowbridge     Jul 6, 2010 in Sports
Paul, the psychic octopus, is back at it again. This time it does not look good for his home team of Germany in their upcoming semi-final match against Spain.
In last month's Digital Journal article, the "octopus oracle" correctly chose Germany to defeat England in the June 27, 2010 soccer match. Paul has been 100% correct in all of his 2010 World Cup predictions.
His predictions are made by which of the two plastic boxes, lowered into his tank and with food inside, he goes to and opens first. The flag of both countries involved in the World Cup match is displayed on the front of the boxes.
According to Sky News, Paul went directly to Spain's box first, but then briefly hovered over Germany's box in a moment of self-doubt, before positively making his mind up in favor of Spain.
He grabbed the mussel from Spain's box, but left the food alone in Germany's box before darting away.
Germany's only hope now is that Paul might have made his first mistake this year. Two years ago, Paul made one bad prediction in the Euro 2008 tournament - the Germany vs Spain final, in which he got the results wrong.
