Boy from US soccer team drowns in Toronto hotel pool

By KJ Mullins     Jul 5, 2010 in World
Toronto - Last week a soccer team in the United States came to Toronto to attend a soccer tournament. Last Friday police were called to Crowne Plaza Hotel after two of the boys, 12 and 13, were reported to be struggling to stay afloat in the pool.
Many of the young boys from the team aged 9 to 13 were in the hotel's swimming pool being supervised by several adults when the two boys appeared to be having difficulty. There were no lifeguards at the pool during the incident.
Several of the boys in the water reported to the police that they had seen the two boys having a hard time staying afloat. The 12-year-old was spotted at the bottom of the pool. Two of the boys pulled the child out of the water and an adult began CPR immediately. A second adult pulled the 13-year-old out of the water.
The older boy was not injured. The 12-year-old was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
