A 4-year-old boy has had his finger surgically reattached after an accident Friday at Macy's flagship store at Herald Square in New York City.
Maxlee Gell-Tejada was with his parents at Macy's flagship store at Herald Square in New York City when he reached down for a water bottle on the first floor wooden escalator.
Natalia Gell-Tejada, the mother of Maxlee, has expressed her frustration with Macy's as her son is now the third child in the last five years to have a finger related injury on the escalators at Macy's.
Gell-Tejada was quoted as saying, "If they want to keep it like something from Macy's back in the day, then put it in a museum." Natalia feels that the escalators are out-dated and should be replaced, "I'm going to try my best to make them remove them and put in better escalators."
Maxlee will spend some time in the hospital to be observed as doctors were not able to repair some of hte veins that enable the finger to move.
Natalia was quoted as saying, "My son is still not well."
The Gell-Tejada family was shopping together with Maxlee's father holding the hand of his 4-year-old son as he reached down to retreive a water bottle which he had dropped around 7p.m. when the accident occured. The finger was immediately put on ice as the child was rushed to the hospital in an attempt to have the finger reattached.
