Toronto - Two G20 detainees, who were not protesting, were arrested on the Esplanade and detained at the temporary detention centre. However, despite their imprisonment, the G20 arrestee proposed to his girlfriend at a demonstration.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”
Last weekend could be considered one of the most violent times in the history of the city of Toronto as more than 900 people were arrested, vandalism engulfed the city and police allegedly committed human rights violations but there was still love.
Tommy Taylor and Kate Bullock were both detained for between 16 and 24 hours over the weekend. The Toronto Star reports that Taylor addressed the crowd at Queen’s Park on Thursday (Canada Day) supporting an independent investigation into the affairs of the police force for its conduct last weekend.
Taylor, while addressing the crowd, then popped the question, “I am not a wealthy man. All I can promise is one hell of an adventure. Kate, I don’t have a ring because I was in jail...but will you marry me?” Bullock nodded her head yes and the two embraced.
According to CBC News, Taylor plans to file a complaint with the Office of the Independent Police Review Director.
