article imageNHL: Blackhawks sign Scott

By Michael Bearak     Jul 2, 2010 in Sports
The Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks started their offseason with a move to secure an enforcer for next season in John Scott.
John Scott played with the Minnesota Wild last season and got to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs at home. Next season he will find himself with the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Thursday Scott signed a two-year deal with the Blackhawks for $500,000 per year.
Scott is a six-foot eight-inch 258-pound defenseman who has also played forward at times as well. Last season he played 51 games and spent 90 minutes in the penalty box, which was the second most on the team.
During the off-season so far the Blackhawks traded away Ben Eager and let Adam Burish go through free-agency. An enforcer is something the Blackhawks will need next season as they open their defense of the Stanley Cup.
