It was a good start for the Filipino cue master who won the World Pool Masters last May in Las Vegas, Nevada. "The balls were on my side so I took advantage of the situation," Orcollo said.
Fellow Filipino champions Django Bustamante and Lee Van Corteza joined Orcollo in the early winning column with Bustamante beating Fabio Petroni while Corteza defeated Ibrahim Al Khadar of Qatar.
World Pool champion Efren "Bata" Reyes who just won the Spain open championship lost to Liu Hitao of China while Jeffrey de Luna was beaten by Thai Nitiwat Kanjanastri. Another Filipno hopeful Marlon Manalo lost to team mate Joven Alba.
Upcoming matches featuring Filipinos are Antonio “Nickoy” Lining versus American Corey Deuel; Antonio “Ga-Ga” Gabica versus German Nicolas Otterman; Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano versus Qatari Ahmed Hassan; Venancio “Tukao” Tanio versus German Holger Gries; and Francisco Felicilda versus Indian Muhammad Zulfikri.
The WPA World Pool Championships offers a total pot prize of $250,000, with the champion getting the lion’s share worth $36,000.
