New York - On Sept. 7, British scientist Stephen Hawking will release his new book entitled "The Grand Design." The book outlines Hawking's theory to describe and explain the forces of nature.
This is the British physicist’s first work in several years. The authorship is shared with scientist Leonard Mlodinow, with whom Hawking has co-authored other publications such as A Briefer History of Time.
In the new book, Hawking and Mlodinow discuss their theory to "describe and explain the forces of nature."
Hawking is a cosmologist and science writer known for his theories on black holes and the formation of the universe. Hawking's major fields of research are theoretical cosmology and quantum gravity.
He suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. His condition has worsened over the years and has left him almost completely paralyzed.
Hawking has been awarded 12 honorary doctorates and in 1989 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias of Concordia Award. He has also received the Order of The British Empire (OBE) in 1982, and the Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 2006. In 2009, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
Hawking is the author of highly successful scientific books as Black Holes and Baby Universes and other essays and The Universe in a nutshell. He is also the author, in collaboration with his daughter Lucy, of a children science book entitled George's Secret Key to the Universe, published in 2007.
With Mlodinow, a professor at the California Institute of Technology, he wrote in 2005 A Briefer History of Time, a version intended for the general public of his first best-seller A Brief History of Time , a book about astrophysics and theoretical physics.
In an interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer in June of this year, Hawking compared religion and science saying:"There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority, [and] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works."
The Grand Design will be released on Sept. 7 in the US and Sept. 9 in the UK.
