Reports have surfaced that former tennis star Jennifer Capriati is recovering in Florida after being rushed to an area hospital because of a drug overdose.
Jennifer Capriati was a tennis darling in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Then after a series of run-ins with the law including arrests for shop-lifting and marijuana possession, Capriati left the game of tennis. She re-emerged in the late 1990's early 2000 to claim the #1 tennis ranking in the world, claiming the Australian Open and French Open titles, as well as reaching the semi-finals at both Wimbeldon and the US Open.
Now reports have surfaced that Capriati, 34, was rushed to a South Florida hospital after accidentally overdosing on prescription drugs. A representative for the family said that she will make a full recovery and the the prescriptions were made out to her by her personal physician.
In a statement to the Associated Press, family spokesperson Lacey Wickline issued a statement saying: "In response to an outpouring of concern and support shown by Jennifer's fans and friends worldwide, we would like to acknowledge that Jen is recuperating at a South Florida hospital from an accidental overdone of medication prescribed to Jen by her personal physician."
While there is very little additional information at this time, the original call went in to 911 on Sunday morning around 7 a.m. where paramedics responded to Capriati's condo near Palm Beach. Capriati's career was derailed because of drugs, as well as other personal problems, she has also talked openly about suffering from depression.
