This past weekend must have been a pretty big deal in Glendale, as US Vice President Joe Biden was out with Senator Russ Feingold as the two stopped into Kopp's Frozen Custard for a little treat.
Biden ordered and received a frozen custard and turned and asked the manager what he owed. It was then that Scott Borkin
joked, "Don't worry, it's on the house. ... Lower our taxes and we'll call it even."
At first Biden
went to put his money back in his pocket and walk away. Instead, he turned around and said "Why don't you say something nice instead of being a smart ass all the time?"
The entire interaction between the two men was caught on ABC video. Borkin was later quoted as saying Biden came back later and told him he was only joking. He offered no apology.
According to a Yahoo News blog
Borkin said it was "Kind of shocking to hear that come out of his mouth." He continued: "I was thrown by it. I wasn't expecting that, especially from, you know, the No. 2 in charge of our country."
The video shows a clearly aggravated vice president, and a more than shocked store manager. In the background, under the camera, you can clearly hear someone else trying to get the media out of the way even directing people away from the vice president.
In an interview with Fox News
, Borkin says he was just trying to be funny, he wasn't "trying to stir anything up."
