As millions of Michael Jackson's fans observe the king of pop's first death anniversary, Jackson's father Joe Jackson filed a wrongful death suit against Dr. Conrad Murray Friday, according to Jackson's lawyer.
The court suit alleges Dr. Murray gave the emergency room of a California hospital, false information about the "polypharmacy" of drugs Michael Jackson had been given and hindered efforts to revive him in an ambulance and at UCLA Medical Center, according to a copy obtained
by CNN.
The Los Angeles County coroner ruled that Michael Jackson's death was caused by an overdose of propofol, a powerful anesthesia that Murray has acknowledged the pop star used to help him sleep.
The suit also alleges that Murray delayed calling for paramedics for over an hour, after he found Jackson not breathing minutes after he injected him with propofol to help him fall asleep. The suit contends that Murray used the time to hide evidence of drugs he had been giving Jackson, CNN report added.
The court documents says other parties will be added later to the suit.
Murray was charged with
involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death in February. The judge refused to suspend his California medical license, although Murray cannot personally administer anesthesia on patients. The maximum sentence if convicted is four years in prison.
His preliminary hearing, which is expected to last at least a week, could begin in late September. A trial could be held next year
Several attempts to have the license of Dr, Murray canceled or suspended failed as California Judge Michael Pastor ruled that the doctor will not have his medical license suspended while he awaits trial.
