France is the first big team to be eliminated from the World Cup competition after being beaten by South Africa 2-1 in their final group game.
A goal from Khumalo gave Bafana Bafana the lead in the 20th minute of the game, Domenech was then handed another bombshell after Gourcuff was dismissed for France after using his arms in a tackle in the box.
Mphela gave Bafana Bafana a chance to qualify just before the break doubling their lead but Florent Malouda pulled a goal back from France sending both teams out of the competition.
Uruguay qualified as the top team in group A thanks to a Suarez goal against Mexico but the Mexican team were not disheartened by the defeat as they also qualified thanks to South Africa beating France.
In Group B Argentina qualified as winners with nine points and three wins. It took until the 77th minute of the game to seal the deal with defender Demichelis firing home from close range. The game seemed to be all done and dusted but Martin Palermo completed the win, latching onto the rebound of a Lionel Messi shot.
South Korea join Argentina in the last sixteen of the competition after a 2-2 draw with Nigeria. Despite opening the scoring in the 12th minute Nigeria could not hold onto their lead and Lee Jung-Soo equalised for the Asian side and Park Chu-Youngs free kick seemed to have sealed the deal for the Koreans early in the second half. But Nigeria were awarded a penalty which Yakubu tucked away leaving for a tense ending to the game but Korea snapped up second place and a second round match against Uruguay.
