article imageFrance in more disarray as director goes, players refuse to train

France, a football team already in disarray, have now had further problems with the team director resigning, the fitness coach storming off the training pitch and the team now refusing to train.
Headlines about the French football squad this World Cup have been more about the infighting and squabbling among the team and staff than their on field antics and today the headlines once again refer to the internal fighting.
According to the The Telegraph, the World Cup director of the French team Jean-Louis Valentin has resigned from the French Football Federation and said that he is "ashamed" of the team.
According to Valentin the squad has also refused to train.
Valentin said, "It's a scandal for the French, for the young people here. It's a scandal for the federation and the French team. They don't want to train. It's unacceptable. As for me, it's over. I'm leaving the federation. I'm sickened and disgusted." He then left the ground in a car.
As the squad arrived at the ground, the players disembarked but Domenech and team captain Patrice Evra stayed on the bus a while longer, apparently talking.
Minutes after the squad arrived at the training ground, fitness coach Robert Duverne and team captain Patrice Evra then had an argument. Domenech went over to try and intervene and Duverne stormed away from them, throwing his accreditation badge onto the ground.
Following that, the French squad boarded their team bus, closed the curtains and now refuse to train. They appear to be refusing to do so in protest of Nicolas Anelka being sent home for his tirade of abuse against Raymons Domenech.
Domenech read the following statement on behalf of the players, "The French Football Federation did not at any time try to protect the group. They took a decision uniquely based on facts reported by the press. As a consequence and to show our opposition to the decision taken by officials of the federation, all the players decided not to take part in today's training session."
