Kitchener - Organizers of the Kitchener/Waterloo Oktoberfest in Ontario, Canada, are hoping to convince Ellen Degeneres to become parade marshal for the 2010 parade.
There is a growing movement in Kitchener/Waterloo to convince actor and talk show host Ellen Degeneres to accept the position of Parade Marshal in the 2010 Oktoberfest parade.
Ellen is aware of the parade, although she may not be currently aware of all the hoopla around getting her to appear in it. A fan sent her a photograph of a lion float from the parade and the unfortunate back view. This photograph was highlighted on her segment, “What’s wrong with these photos?” This segment prompted the creation of a Facebook fan page and the movement to convince her to become Parade Marshall.
Currently, there are over 26,000 members of the Facebook group started by Larry Blundell and Linda Zavarella. in order to convince Ellen to become Parade Marshall. The fan page, Ellen Degeneres for Parade Marshall of 2010 K-W Oktoberfest Parade, has gotten lots of attention from local media and was also mentioned on Canada AM.
On June 24, 2010 a mass chicken dance has been planned to take place at Kitchener City Hall. Participants are invited to show up at 6 p.m. with a printed face mask of Ellen (obtained from her website), a camera and the lyrics to an “ellenized” version of Roll out the Barrel (available on the Facebook fan page). The chicken dance event will feature local radio personalities, Oktoberfest mascot Onkle Hans, Oktoberfest dancers, and a couple of floats, including the famous lion.
This is an attempt to get further publicity for the event and to increase the chances that Ellen will agree to be Parade Marshal.
