The partnership between Yahoo! and Facebook has reached a new plateau. Facebook integration launched globally on more than 15 Yahoo! sites.
On June 7, 2010, Yahoo! announced in a press release, the launch of Facebook integration across their network, published on more than 15 Yahoo! sites. The company's continued commitment to bringing the best social experience into the lives of their consumers world-wide, is reaching tremendous milestones.
"More and more, people rely on social sites to share and discover information that matters to them, making Yahoo! uniquely positioned to provide people with all of the mainstream methods of content discovery - social, search, communications, and editorial," said Cody Simms, senior director of Social Platforms and Yahoo! Developer Network (YDN) at Yahoo!. "Starting with Facebook, we are bringing all of these elements together to give people one simple, trusted place to share information and connect. We think this offers great benefit to people across the web, and it's key to helping Yahoo! extend our reach and increase engagement."
Yahoo's partnership with Facebook is a significant event. According to the released statement, as of this week, users can link both their Facebook and Yahoo! accounts and share updates across both networks. In addition, resources including Yahoo News, Yahoo Sports, and Yahoo entertainment sites can create and share actions with friends across the networks. Additional integrations are currently in development.
Simms stated, "From news to sports to entertainment, Yahoo! sites provide ideal experiences to share with friends," said Ethan Beard, director of Facebook Developer Network. "By integrating with Facebook on a global scale, Yahoo! is building upon an already valuable brand to give people easy ways to share the content they enjoy on Yahoo! with their friends on Facebook."
More recent milestones include Facebook Contact Integration and Facebook "Like Button" Integration. Currently, Yahoo! Search returns a full stream of public tweets and upcoming are broader partnership agreements between Yahoo! and Twitter, which are scheduled for implementation later this year. Yahoo! is building its position as a major player within the social arena and networking experience.
