Could having a good figure and wearing attractive clothing get you fired? One Citigroup banker in New York is claiming that this is precisely what happened to her.
Debrahlee Lorenzana, a half Puerto-Rican, half Italian employee of a Citigroup branch bank in Manhattan, is filing a sexual harassment suit based on claims she was laid off due to being too attractive for her male coworkers.
Lorenzana alleges she was told not to wear certain items of clothing, including some types of skirts and tops that other female co-workers were allowed to wear.
She and her lawyer stated that these restrictions, as well as Lorenzana's eventual sacking, occurred because she is more attractive than co-workers and has a better figure.
As England's Daily Mail explains, Lorenzana complained to the office's Human Resources but was nonetheless fired some months later.
Citigroup says the lawsuit is "without merit" and the company "is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and providing a respectful environment in the workplace."
