Bushkill - A Pennsylvania couple met the first day of their lives but they were just babies. Their mothers gave birth on the same day, in the same hospital and shared the same hospital room. Now, they're about to get married.
On April 17, 1986, Jacqueline Smith gave birth to twins, Steve and Scott. Janis Singley gave birth to Amy on the same day at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill. After the birth of the babies the mothers were admitted to the same room.
The families both attended the same church which at the time was called St. Joseph Catholic Church. The church merged with nearby parishes in 2008 and now is called Our Lady of Mercy.
Steve and Amy did interact with each other through activities at their church.
Later, Steve asked Amy to go to the movies with him during their sophomore year in school.
lehighvalleylive.com reports Steve said, “I basically just knew she was the girl with the same birthday as me,” according to local media.
Their parents drove them to the movie where they saw ‘Vanilla Sky’ with Tom Cruise."
Amy said,“I knew he was the right guy for me after our second date."
When asked how did she know she answered, “It was kind of like looking for a house. When you find the right one, you just know."
Steve graduated with a degree in meteorology from Millersville University, is now employed as a sales representative for a specialty foods company.
Amy attended the same university and is now a seventh-grade learning support teacher at Nazareth Area Middle School.
The couple say they complement each other: he is more relaxed and laid back and she is more energetic.
