The Memorial Weekend tradition of the annual running of the Indianapolis 500, and it signified the return of Danica Patrick to Indy racing as well.
The Brickyard reconvened once again for the running of the Indianapolis 500. This year the victory was going to go to Dario Franchitti, who started in the third position. It also represents Franchitti's second victory in the 500 and another for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Many thought this was the year for pole sitter Helio Castroneves, who was seeking his fourth Indy 500 victory. The fourth victory would put in the elite company with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears as the fourth, four time winner.
May 30, 2010's race was not to be Castroneves' though, many sports reporters had felt it was the year for Graham Rahal, son of Bobby Rahal. The victory by Franchitti made Chip Ganassi Racing the first owner to with both the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 in the same season.
Franchitti led most of the race controlling 155 of the 200 laps. Franchitti lost the lead for awhile after pitting for fuel, but regained the lead with seven laps to go.
Franchitti was followed by Dan Weldon in second, Alex Loyd in third, Scott Dixon in fourth with Patrick ending up fifth. Castroneves finished ninth.
