Ignoring the recent furore surrounding her cash-for-royal-access scandal, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has attended the BookExpo America trade show, in New York, as an author to promote her children’s books.
At the event, the duchess, who is a children’s author and television presenter, avoided speaking directly about the recent entrapment of her by a British tabloid, the News of the World. However, according to Associated Press, she did hint at the scandal, admitting that she had not been having an easy time.
During her speech at the event, she said: “It was quite difficult for me to get to [the event] this morning. One or two people in the way. But then you might have read that.”
Ferguson then went on to applaud the authors gathered for inspiring both children and adults with their work.
“We’ve learned from each one of you passion, we’ve learned forgiveness.”
Then, again appearing to make reference to her recent woes, she added: “We’ve learned that real life is too extreme for fiction. I second that big time.”
Following the revelations involving Ferguson’s attempts to sell access to her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, American Idol and Britain’s Got Talent impresario Simon Cowell defended the Duchess after she appeared at a children’s charity gala.
A trooper
Digital Spy quoted Cowell as saying: “To be fair to her, she’s a trooper. You know, she didn’t have to be here tonight. She’s very passionate about this kids charity work she does and not many people would have [turned up as] she did – but she did.”
We reported earlier today that TV chiefs had reported axed fly-on-the-wall documentaries the duchess had made.
Digital Spy says Ferguson had been offered a £300,000 deal for three fly-on-the-wall programmes about her personal life, but these are now not expected to go ahead.
Meanwhile, the prince’s ex-wife has admitted to Inside Edition that she would like to compete on the reality show Dancing with the Stars.
Ferguson said: “I would quite like to go on Dancing with the Stars. I’d like somebody to teach me the tango. You don’t get a chance to watch TV but I do know the show and my children would be so proud of me.”
