article imageObama effigy set ablaze inside Wisconsin bar Special

By Kim I. Hartman     May 21, 2010 in Politics
Milwaukee - A Wisconsin bartender encouraged by drunken patrons of a Milwaukee Pub and Grill set a statue of President Obama on fire as customers sang, danced, drank and toasted the fiery end of Obama's political policy that the majority of the group disagree with.
People at a bar in West Allis, Wisconsin were laughing and shouting at Yester Years pub and grill last night as an effigy of President Obama was set ablaze with flaming alcohol on top of the bar as the crowd applauded, danced, cheered and drank some more.
The local Fox station says the the Secret Service is no longer interested in continuing an investigation of this being a threat to the President after speaking to some of the people who were involved, including the bartender and bar owner. Fox reports that the local police are still investigating. The bar owner says the bartender and customers simply got out of control and that it's being blown out of proportion.
At least one customer was unhappy over the flaming Obama head and recorded it in a video and gave it to the City of Milwaukee's Police Department.
Neither the bar owner or the bartender have anything else to say at this time. In a phone call to the bar the lady who answered refused to give her name but did say "it was not racially motivated" she said "it was politically motivated and people are unhappy with the president". She said it got out of hand and she couldn't speak anymore about it but did say the police are not investigating it any longer".
"I think it should be investigated and the person who was responsible for it should have an explanation for doing it," says Jerry Ann Hamilton, Milwaukee's NAACP president. She said it was very offensive and it sends a terrible message to other people."
Hamilton regrets that it happened and regrets that it happened in the state of Wisconsin. She said it's the worst image a person can send out.
Milwaukee NAACP official's when contacted this afternoon a spokesperson said they are pushing for a full investigation and have no further information at this time.
A call to Washington, DC office of the NAACP found them to be unaware of the event. After DigitalJournal.com sent the video footage to their office they have replied with "Unfortunately it’s not looking like we’ll be able to comment on such short notice. Our designated spokespeople are all out of the office for the day." They will be looking into the details and will have a response soon."
This story will be updated with any further news, police charges and the National Office of the NAACP's statement as soon as it is received.
