article imageNo Triple Crown in 2010

By Michael Bearak     May 15, 2010 in Sports
Lookin At Lucky ended everyone's hopes of a Triple Crown run by Kentucky Derby Winner Super Saver today taking the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness in 1:55.47.
Affirmed was the last horse to win the Triple Crown, back in 1978, that was 32 years ago and now we are going to have to wait another year to see if we can get a horse to win all three legs of the Triple Crown. Two weeks ago it was Super Saver winning the Kentucky Derby with Calvin Borel, winning by 2.5 lengths. Borel rode the rail to victory and today, getting to the rail was something that Borel could not do.
In Super Saver's place was Lookin At Lucky with jockey Martin Garcia as they posted a 1:55.47 victory over First Dude and Jackson Bend. Garcia took over for jockey Garrett Gomez who was yanked after a disappointing performance in the Derby.
Derby Winner, Super Saver finished eighth, for only the second time in his career he has finished outside of the money.
Lookin At Lucky was trained by Bob Baffert who picked up his ninth Triple Crown victory and his fifth in the Preakness.
