Police called the armed thief the "toilet-paper robber" after the crook wrapped his head in toilet paper as a disguise. Running from the scene of the crime, the robber left behind a trail of TP.
Lincoln, NB - The then-unknown robber had made a splash in Nebraska news back in April after the audacious robbery of Kabredlo's Convenience Store at the end of the month. But the robber's freedom is now down the drain after police managed to identify the suspect, in spite of the swath of toilet paper the robber had used to disguise his facial features. A clean flush, you might say.
Joshua Nelson, 29, was arrested on April 8t for the robbery. He faces charges of robbery and use of a weapon to commit a crime.
The
Journal Star said an undisclosed amount of money was given to the toilet paper suspect. The police tracked the suspect with a dog, finding toilet tissue on the get-away trail.
Chief Tom Casady said on Monday
"... A tough-guy image will be difficult to cultivate when you are forever after known as the Toilet Paper Bandit."
Police spokesperson Katie Flood said there had been one other unusual robbery disguise used in Lincoln in 2009. That person used a beer box, and has not yet been caught. Flood said they had established that the two crimes were not related.
It would have been very interesting if the police had been able to identify Nelson by the toilet paper in an amazing CSI-like moment, but the truth is, the resolution of the case is thanks to a prescription bottle the robber lost when running from the crime scene. Police found the bottle while tracking the robber in April, but said they had not been able to press charges until Saturday.
Original video footage of the robbery was posted on the site,
The Smoking Gun.
