article imageOp-Ed: Vince McMahon Denies the UFC PPV Hurt Wrestlemania's Buy-rate

By Kyle Fitta     May 7, 2010 in Sports
Vince McMahon, at a morning's conference call with investors, denied that the UFC PPV hurt the numbers for Wrestlemania's buy-rate. Vince McMahon blames the creative control for the decreasing buy rate instead.
In this morning's conference call with investors, Vince McMahon was asked about the UFC 111 PPV, which did 770,000 buys and aired the Saturday prior to Wrestlemania 26.
"Not sure whether it has or not. You're talking about two completely different audiences. The UFC audience is more of a boxing audience than an entertainment audience," says Mr. McMahon.
Later in the conference call, Mr. McMahon put more of the blame on the lack of effort from WWE's creative staff.
My Two Cents:
Mr. McMahon needs to get out of his little WWE bubble. Since UFC went mainstream, they have reconverted the majority of the older audience into dedicated MMA fans by presenting something real and violent versus something hokey, scripted, and kiddish.
