Pablo Picasso's "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust" sold for a record $106.4 million on Tuesday at an auction in New York City hosted by Christie's.
Pablo Picasso did a portrait of his blonde mistress 1932, and now it has brought in more money than any other piece of art at auction in history. On Tuesday Picasso's piece, "Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust" was sold at auction by Christie's for a record $106.4 million in New York City.
The jewel toned piece was sold to an anonymous caller as Nick Hall as Christie's specialist was fielding calls as part of the bidding, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Just three months ago Sotheby's sold a sculpture by Alberto Giacometti for $104.3 million at Sotheby's. It was Giacometti's "Walking Man I" piece. The Picasso was expected to sell for between $70 and $90 million.
