A new tool from VoiceCorp will launch tomorrow, Digital Journal has learned. The product, called docReader, converts documents into a Web-readable and then dictates the content to you.
VoiceCorp wants to help you "hear" documents, just like you can hear blog posts and articles using its
ReadSpeaker tool (available on Digitaljournal.com). Now, its docReader online software will scan Word documents, PDFs and other document formats in order to "say" what is on screen.
The service will be available tomorrow, Digital Journal has learned.
How it works: When you open a document using ReadSpeaker docReader, you get a toolbar with a speech button and other functions. When you click the "play" button a voice will read the doc out loud to you. You can also opt to highlight text while it's read.
"We are very enthusiastic about this new product which further enhances the accessibility to the content of websites," said Niclas Bergstrom, co-founder of VoiceCorp. "It allows website owners to serve the broadest possible audience and provide an easy click and listen access to their online documents."
And because Readspeaker docReader is a Web-based service, you don't need to download or install any special software to use it.
Readspeaker docReader can also dictate docs on various cellphone browsers as well as other devices without built-in PDF-, Word- or Open Office document-viewing capabilities.
In late 2009, VoiceCorp
released an iPhone app to let you listen to the RSS feeds of English blogs and websites.
