Actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he would like to be President of the United States. If only the Constitution allowed him to.
On the
Tonight Show yesterday, host Jay Leno
asked Schwarzenegger if he would make a bid for the White House if the law was changed to allow foreign nationals to run for the highest office.
Schwarzenegger told Leno: “Without any doubt.”
However, the 62-year-old California Governor was born in Austria, and the United States Constitution prevents foreign-born citizens running for President.
So such a thing is not likely – not in the foreseeable future, at least. An amendment to the Constitution – which such a move would require – has to be approved by two-thirds majorities in both the House of Representatives and Senate, and then be ratified by three-quarters of state legislatures.
And Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Aaron McLear says the Governor doesn’t think that will happen.
Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger has
denied that he ever worked as a “fluffer” on porn movies.
A spokesman for the Governor’s office had to deny the claim, after Schwarzenegger had obliquely suggested that he had once performed the degrading task for a living.
“He [the spokesman] said that Schwarzenegger had merely been speaking hypothetically, naming the task – which involves arousing male porn stars before a performance – as the worst job imaginable,” says the
Daily Telegraph.
Schwarzenegger is perhaps best known for his
Terminator roles, having gained worldwide fame as a Hollywood action-film icon. He is also noted for his lead role in such films as
Conan the Barbarian and was nicknamed the “Austrian Oak” and the “Styrian Oak” in his bodybuilding days.
