Istanbul - The evangelical Christian group say they are "99.9%" sure that they have discovered Noah's Ark in Turkey, but experts are quite skeptical.
Near the peak of Mount Ararat in Turkey, a group of evangelical Christian researchers from Noah's Ark Ministries International in Hong Kong, believe they have stumbled upon Noah’s Ark 4,000 meters above sea level, according to the New York Daily News.
In the bible, Noah’s Ark rested at Mount Ararat after the great flood.
CTV News reports that samples taken from Noah’s Ark date 4,800 years and one of the researchers said the “structure is partitioned into different spaces.”
“We believe that the wooden structure we entered is the same structure recorded in historical accounts and the same ancient boat indicated by the locals,” said Man-Fai Yuen, one of the researchers.
Yeung Wing-cheung, a Hong Kong documentary filmmaker and member of the group, said that they are “not 100% that it is Noah’s Ark, but we think it is 99.9% that this is it,” reports Entertainment and Showbiz.
The Turkish government plans to apply for UNESCO World Heritage site designation.
However, many are skeptical that it’s the real deal. George Washington University Professor Eric Cline told “Good Morning America” that he’s “waiting for them to convince me.”
“It could be ancient, it could be medieval, it could even have been constructed last week. Even carbon-14 dating will only tell us how old the wood is; it will not tell us when the structure was constructed,” he said.
