China to launch China's Got Talent

By Wang Fangqing     Apr 25, 2010 in Entertainment
Shanghai - Shanghai-based Dragon TV is to launch a Chinese version of the popular British television show Britain's Got Talent, aiming to compete with other local TV stations in the country.
The plan reportedly has been approved by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, the Beijing-based media industry watchdog. Chen Di, general director of the show told local media the producing will start from May.
Chen said Dragon TV has purchased the copyright from BGT, and will basically copy the original show from the stage design to the competition rules, with localized characteristics including the Shanghai World Expo.
"We hope the show will find China's Susan Boyle," he said.
Dragon TV has invited Boyle to visit during the Expo, but the response is still unclear.
China's local television stations have been keen on producing talent shows since 2004, when "Super Girls", the Chinese version of American Idol launched by Hunan TV, hit the small screen, pushing the audience rating to a record high.
