Toronto - Canadians are great neighbours. That is the theory of Delta Hotels and Resorts. The company took time out Tuesday morning in the Beaches community to announce their Good Neighbours Challenge.
Hank Stackhouse, President and CEO of Delta Hotels and Resorts, greeted the neighbourhood with a huge breakfast spread to officially launch his company's Good Neighbours Challenge. The challenge is to get neighbourhoods across Canada to focus on improving access to affordable housing, protecting the environment, supporting neighbourhood causes and volunteering.
Stackhouse thanked the neighbourhood for hosting today's launch. The launch will benefit the Daily Bread food bank and Habitat for Humanity in Toronto.
"It's about every community across the country," Stackhouse stressed.

Prior launching the challenge Delta Hotels conducted a national survey in March about how Canadians feel about neighbours. The findings were that 94 per cent of Canadians consider themselves to be a good neighbour. That said less than half (45%) believed that their neighbourhood would come together in hard times.
On Tuesday there was no doubt that the Beaches area neighbourhood was one of the best ones in the nation. Kids and their parents and grandparents were out in support of helping others. Everyone was excited about being a part of the national launch that will see $1 million going to charity from Delta Resorts plus 10,000 volunteer hours from their employees.

Ben Murloney, host of Canadian Idol and etalk was also on hand encouraging others to give to their community. Murloney, eagerly awaiting the birth of twin sons, said that becoming a parent is one of the reasons he is behind the initiative by Delta.
"These days we need the help of people you can trust and you need good neighbourhoods," Murloney said "It's not always about helping people on the other side of the world but working your own neighbourhood."
