Dozens of cases of expired beer deposited in a landfill proved to be too much temptations for two Columbia, Missouri, sanitation workers who allegedly carted off dozens of cases of the dud suds.
Authorities are still trying to figure out if the lifting of cases of beer was a theft of city property and a crime, or nothing more than a policy violation.
Officer Jessie Haden, a spokeswoman for the Columbia police department said:
"If we determine it's a police matter, we will take some action."
Scheppers Distributing Co. sent a total of 1,500 cases of expired beer in two shipments to the Columbia landfill on April 1.
The first shipment was destroyed immediately, but the second, containing about 700 cases of Budweiser and Michelob Ultra, was not.
Two workers were seen driving a pickup truck into the landfill where they hauled of approximately 50 cases of beer, said Margrace Buckler, Columbia’s human resource director.
