A mayor's joke about sperm that was not appreciated

Torrington - Perhaps forgetting that one's Facebook pages are sometimes actually read, a UK major posted a so-called joke many people did not appreciate. She compared illegal immigrants to sperm. Now she has been officially reprimanded.

It helps to see a portrait of this major, a woman, when reading this - but unfortunately the image is copyrighted and can't be used here. However, it is available with an article in the Mail Online, where we also find the offending sentence she posted on her Facebook page:

"Illegal immigrants are like sperm - millions of them come in but only one works."

After several complaints, Sue Mills (age 50 and the the Mayor of Torrington, UK) took the sentence down and went public with an apology, saying that it was merely a joke and "never intended to cause offence." However, the BBC reports that she has now been officially reprimanded by the town council of Great Torrington. People who commented on her posing alternatively branded her comments as cheap, offensive, derogatory and an indication of racial hatred.
