article imageMonty Python actor John Cleese spends £3,300 on cab fare

Monty Python actor John Cleese spent £3,300 (over $5,000 USD) on a taxi ride when his flight from Oslo was cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud.
Cleese took a taxi cab journey from the Norwegian capital of Oslo to Brussels, Belgium. The distance of the ride was 930 miles. The fare ended up costing the actor £3,300.
Cleese had been taking part in the popular Scandinavian talk show Skavlan in Norway when he became stranded due to the European airspace closure from Iceland's volcanic ash cloud.
"We checked every option but there were no boats and no train tickets available. That's when my fabulous assistant determined the easiest thing would be to take a taxi, Cleese said.
The actor was travelling to Brussels, hoping to catch a Eurostar train to London, where he wants to arrive by 3pm on Saturday.
"I will think about a joke you've probably already heard: How do you get God to laugh? Tell him your plans," Cleese said.
There is no report of how much the cab driver was tipped on that £3,300 fare.
