article imageLady Gaga says to fans: 'Don't have sex'

Lady Gaga recently told her fans it's OK not to have sex. The singer herself says she is now celibate. She said, "I've chosen to be single because I don't have the time to get to know anybody."
CBS News reports that Lady Gaga announced that she is now celibate, urging her fans to do the same.
According to MTV, Gaga said, "I can't believe I'm saying this -- don't have sex." Gaga was in England promoting MAC Cosmentics' Viva Glam campaign which supports HIV and AIDS projects around the globe.
"I'm single right now and I've chosen to be single because I don't have the time to get to know anybody," the singer said. "So it's OK not to have sex, it's OK to get to know people. I'm celibate, celibacy's fine."
Of course, the singer's reason for spreading the celibacy message is in part related to the steady rise in the rate of HIV infection among women, while cases among men have declined.
Gaga, always a proponent of being yourself, also said she wants her celibacy to be something she shares with her fans.
"It's OK to be whomever it is that you want to be," she said. "You don't have to have sex to feel good about yourself, and if you're not ready, don't do it…It's not really cool anymore to have sex all the time. It's cooler to be strong and independent."
