article imageNeepawa, Manitoba reels after fatal shooting

By Bob Gordon     Apr 11, 2010 in Crime
Neepawa - The quiet town of Neepawa, Manitoba is reeling after a murder this weekend. RCMP said Brent Michael David Bialkoski, 23, of Brandon, Manitoba, died after being shot in a home on Third Avenue at Main Street E. just before 4:15 a.m. central time.
Next-door neighbour Kerry Byram was incredulous, "I thought, 'Oh my God, that sounds like gunshots, but … give them the benefit of the doubt, it was probably just the door, because stuff like guns do not go off in town.... It's so unusual, it does not happen."
An autopsy will be done tomorrow at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, but the Spruce Plains RCMP say they are treating the death as a homicide, but no arrests have been made.
Spruce Plains Detachment includes 10 Rural Municipalities, with numerous towns and villages as well as the Rolling River First Nation and is a consolidated unit comprised of three offices, with Neepawa serving as the host and community offices located in Minnedosa and Gladstone.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit, along with the Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section and members of Spruce Plains RCMP Detachment continue to investigate, according to The Brandon Sun.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Spruce Plains RCMP at 204-476-7338 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
