article imageStudent gets sent home for wearing Lady Gaga T-shirt

Greenbrier - A 15-year-old student in Greenbrier, Tennessee was sent home for wearing an "I ♥ Lady Gay Gay" T-shirt to school on Monday.
Cole Goforth, the 15-year-old high schooler at Greenbrier High, walked into school wearing a shirt reading "I ♥ Lady Gay Gay" (see images at left). The administrators saw this and immediately sent Goforth home.
According to the local school board, they were worried that a shirt with the word "gay" on it would make students feel uncomfortable.
Cole and his mother didn't take the suspension lightly; the duo was quick to point out the school's hypocritical policy. As Nashville's WSMV reports, Cole said that he felt he could wear the shirt because other students wear shirts with religious dogma or rebel flags on them.
His mother, Julie Gordon, says, "I think they are singling him out. They've made statements that if he wore this in California, he'd fit in just fine."
Administrators said they stepped in Monday because of a fight that happened the week before.
"We've had a few disruptions the last few days, and we thought the slogan on that shirt would continue to escalate those incidents that had occurred," said Danny Weeks, assistant director of the school board.
Cole sees it differently. "I just think my sexuality isn't widely accepted around here, so of course they are going to single me out," he said.
