Time Magazine has listed Manny Pacquiao as one of the top 200 most influential people, ranking no.16 in the list along with US president Barack Obama who ranked no 11 on the magazine's list.
Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao made it to the list of Time Magazine's most influential people along with US president Barack Obama. Pacquiao occupied the 16th slot while President Obama almost made it to the top ten list of the popular magazine at no.11 in the April ranking.
While the Time 100 list has been criticized as not really being about “influence” but more about being trendy—with’s Tim Graham even describing it as “Time’s idea of who is interesting and exciting [that] meshed with who they like”—it nevertheless remains a popular installment for the publication
In 2009, Forbes Magazine listed the popular Filipino boxer as one of the richest sportsmen of the year, having ranked no.6 richest sportsmen of 2009. Top golfer Tiger Woods is still the highest paid athlete with over $100 million in earnings.
Pacquiao is fresh from his victory over Joshua Clottey of Ghana last March 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas. The Filipino boxer made over $10 million in prize money excluding revenues from pay-per-view and gate receipts.
The popular boxer is currently campaigning for a congressional seat representing his district in southern Philippines in the May 10 national elections.
