Los Angeles - The next project for box office superstar Will Smith will be either "Men in Black 3" or "The City That Sailed" but it is now being circulated around Hollywood that Smith has signed on for two "Independence Day" sequels.
According to Media News International, the former “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Will Smith has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to reprise his role as Captain Steve Hiller Will in two “Independence Day” sequels that are expected to be shot back-to-back in 2011.
The sequel, which Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman has previously stated that he wants to do for quite some time, would have Roland Emmerich returning to the director’s chair and Dean Devlin writing the screenplay, reports the Hindustan Times.
Coming Soon reports that Emmerich and Devlin already have the plot set for the sequels that would be set on planet Earth with the story continuing but bigger and would begin at least 12 years later after the first one ended. Some titles have flown around for the new film such as “ID4-Ever, Part I and II” but nothing else has been revealed about the upcoming films.
The original 1996 “Independence Day” earned more than $800 million on a $75 million budget, notes Worst Previews.
