Family Support Caused Possible Suspension for Student

By Kassandra Garcia     Mar 31, 2010 in Health
Plant City - $4 almost cost one Tomlin Middle School Student more than just the satisfaction of supporting family members battling cancers.
Frankie Rodriguez, a 14 year old, was threatened with suspension after staff at the school deemed his bracelet was inappropriate. The bracelet in question is a simple, white, rubber band with the words "I love boobies" and "Keep a Breast." He wore the bracelet to school for a month before anyone noticed or had a problem with it.
When a faculty member asked for the bracelet, Rodriguez refused and was shocked by the situation. He commented in an interview with Fox News Orlando, "I told them I wasn't going to hand the bracelet over, and they just went overboard."
Angie Rodriguez, Frankie's mother, does feel differently, "We have a lot of family members that have survived breast cancer and other sorts of cancer and it's really important to our family."
The school views it's actions as being justified by saying that Frankie was disrespectful to faculty staff members. And has also made it clear to other students that the bracelets go against the dress code and are banned.
