By Baker Helton     Mar 28, 2010 in Sports
Lakeland - The New York Yankees (10-13) beat the Detroit Tigers (14-10-1) 2-1 on a warm day in Lakeland, Flordia. A.J. Burnett showed his ace stuff giving up one earned run in 6 and 2/3 innings.
A.J. Burnett made a quality spring training start only giving up one earned run. The one run that Burnett did give up was to former teammate Johnny Damon who scored from second off of a Magglio Ordonez single with two outs in the third inning. Damon had doubled to get on base. Damon was signed by the Tigers as a free agent on February 22, 2010, signing a one year eight million dollar deal. Damon batted .282 as the Yankees center fielder in 2009.
Burnett looked great after the third striking out two and walking three in 6 and 2/3.
Joba Chamberlain got his first save of spring training by pitching the 9th inning giving up two hits and striking out one.

Chamberlain is going to stay in the bullpen according to pitching coach Dave Eliand." We will not bring [Joba Chamberlain] out of the bullpen to start this year," said Eliand. "We feel like he can be a good starter. We feel like he can be a great reliever."
The Tigers and Yankees game on Sunday was canceled due to rain.
