Toronto - He is accused of stealing from a dying woman in hospital, a crime so disgusting that even other criminals were calling in to tip lines. He taunted the police with "you can't catch me." He was wrong.
Saturday evening his luck ran out. Marcos Marinoni, 26, was nabbed by the Toronto Police. He is being held on 10 charges related to last week's robbery of a dying woman at Toronto East General Hospital.
As the victim lay breathing her last breathe Marinono and his accomplice Isaac Lewkowicz, 29, allegedly walked into her hospital room and left with a credit card and jewelry. The victim died before police arrived to investigate the incident.
Police believe that the pair may be behind several other hospital robberies in the Greater Toronto Area targeting palliative care and maternity ward patients.
Toronto Staff Sergeant Mike Cannon said during a phone interview that Marinoni's case was a joint investigation with Peel Regional, York Regional and Toronto Police Services.
Among his charges are theft over and under $5,000 and possession of a credit card obtained by crime. Cannon said that more charges are expected to be added as the investigation continues.
Marinoni was to be court Sunday but has asked for an extension for medical reasons.
Cannon said that Marinoni is in hospital currently after complaining of facial pain.
