They say they did it to annoy the neighbors – and it worked. Too well, perhaps, because a judge fined a Swedish couple having fake sex $200 as a result.
According to the Swedish news service
The Local, the couple explained that they pretended to be engaging in sexual activity last summer on the patio of their apartment in Sodermalm, a neighborhood of Stockholm, in full view of their neighbors.
They say they did it to annoy a family that, according to the couple, regularly hosts rowdy parties.
The fake sex act provoked people enough that they filed a complaint with the authorities, and the couple found themselves before a judge in Stockholm District Court. The judge didn’t see things their way, found them guilty of disorderly conduct, and levied a fine of 800 kronor ($200 US).
The judge’s ruling now sets a precedent that sex, even fake sex, is illegal if conducted where the neighbors can see it.
